OPERATION JEFFERSON GLENN


This operation was initiated at 1000H on 05 September by the 101st ABN DIV (AM) in coordination with the 1st ARVN INF DIV and government officials in the Thua Thien Province. The purpose of the operation was to conduct search-and-clear activities; locate and destroy enemy forces, staging areas, and forward cache sites; protect vital LOC's; and assist GVN in meeting their pacification goals.

Operation Jefferson Glenn was the last major offensive operation involving US ground troops in coordination with elements of 101st ABN DIV (AM), 1st BDE, 5th INF DIV, and 1st ARVN DIV operating in the Thua Thien and Quang Tri Provinces.

Unit(s) tasked organized or under brigade control: 1-501 IN BN; 1-502 IN BN; 2-501 IN BN; 2-502 IN BN and 2d Brigade, 101st ABN DIV.

Operation Jefferson Glenn commenced on 05 September 1970 and terminated on 06 October 1971 with the following results:

Friendly: 60 KIA, 291 WIA, 1 MIA

Enemy: 2026 NVA KIA
