OPERATION KENTUCKY JUMPER


The 101st Airborne Division (AM) , 9th Infantry Division and ARVN 3rd Regiment embarked on a new spring offensive design to amplify search and clear operation in the Accelerated Pacification Campaign, to deny the enemy freedom of movement in the southern and western portion of Thua Thien Province.

Elements of the 101st Airborne Division (AM) continued seek-and-destroy mission. This multi-battalion operation continued until 14 August 1969 Enemy losses were 317 killed in the five and one-half month period. In addition, 55 crew-served and 254 individual weapons were captured. US casualties were 61 killed and 409 wounded of whom 355 were evacuated. The operation was supported by 2,633 tactical air sorties and 409 naval gunfire missions.

A 101st Airborne Division (AM), 9th Infantry Division and 3d ARVN Regiment search and clear operation in the Thua Thien Province. The primary missions of the operation were to seek out and destroy VC/NVA forces; to interdict enemy base area and infiltration routes; to detect, capture or destroy local Viet Cong infrastructure and their sympathizers; disrupt the routes of supply between the rice producing lowlands and population centers, and mountain base camps; and to support the Thua Thien Province Accelerated Pacification Program. In addition, the 101st Airborne Division (AM) in cooperation and coordination with the ARVN/GVN forces in the division area of operations continued to conduct combined operations throughout Thua Thien Province, to increase the effectiveness and professionalism of these forces.
