Operation MONTGOMERY RENDEZOVOUS was initiated on 08 June with 3d Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (AM) who remained in the northern A Shau Valley and with supported elements of the 101st Airborne Division (AM). The US forces, operating in conjunction with elements of the 1st ARVN Infantry Division, had the mission of locating and capturing or destroying enemy forces, material, and equipment in the AO. The operation which terminated 15 August 1969 was centered in an area 28 miles west-southwest of Hue in Thua Thien Province. Enemy losses were 393 killed. In addition, 174 individual and 47 crew-served weapons were captured. US casualties were 87 killed and 408 wounded, of whom 378 were evacuated.

A 3d Brigade, 101st Airborne controlled search and clear operations in the A Shau Valley, Thua Thien Province in conjunction with the 3d Regiment, 1st ARVN Division against NVA forces in the high ground to the east of the A Shau Valley (vicinity FSB Airborne) and north of he RAO LAO Valley and along Route 547. Sporadic contact was made throughout this operation as infantry and armored cavalry units continued reconnaissance in force operations in assigned Area of Operations.
