During Operation Sayonara the 2-502 IN was assigned under Task Force SMITH. Task Force SMITH elements did not participate in the Brigade's move to QUI MHON area, nor in the subsequent combat operations there. In accordance with USATF (FFORCEV) OPORD 7-65 (Good Friend I), the Task Force had moved to the CAM RANH BAY area, commencing on 20 September 1965; it remained there, performing assigned security missions, throughout the period.
